A film I saw as a child on the afternoon matinee slot I expect (so circa 1980 ish). Old British B&W film, RAF / wartime story. RAF types, I have an image in my mind looking slightly down on a country cottage and some chap pulling up outside in a pre-war Aston Martin or possible HRG / Frazer Nash (but I'm pretty sure it was an Aston). Any thoughts? If you don't know your vintage cars, it will probably not mean anything..

Been trying to watch every related film of the era!

    Thanks.

Sounds like the doctor going to see Barnes Wallis at his country cottage at the start of The Dam Busters.

I thought the same, however. I have checked my copy of 'First of the Few' and although David Niven's character visits the cottage on several occasions, you only see him walk though the gate. He isn't shown driving in the film. So this doesn't match OP criteria.

This is the car for Beginning of 'Dam Busters' again not matching OP criteria. I think brianl may be closer to the mark. I'll see if I can find my copy of reach for the sky

I shall support BrianL suggestion of Reach For the Sky 1956. There is a scene where Douglas bader (played by Kenneth More) and two of his RAF chums 'escape' from the hospital for a ride in one of his friends' Bentley.

Thanks all! I will check First of the Few. I think I've missed that one. It's not unfortunately Reach for the Sky. I always suspect that a lot of old matinee favourites just never made it to DVD. The imagine in my mind is looking slightly down on the cottage. The car pulls up from left to right. It's certainly an Aston/'HRG/FN. I thought it was an Aston, it lodged firmly in my mind. All input very much appreciated.
