It's a nice personal account that, naturally, reveals much of the private man as well as the public actor. With a foreword by Jeffrey Holland, and contributions from old friends and colleagues including Ian Lavender, Vicki Michelle, along with lots of pictures from his personal collection, it has plenty of interesting anecdotes about the filming of his best known shows, and some private correspondence that reveals how certain roles were initiated and how other projects developed. It's not a critical biography, and there are no great insights into his craft or the relative qualities of the performances, but you end up feeling that you know much more about the man, and his professionalism as well as his personality.

That scene at the end of Carry On Nurse, where Kenneth Connor, playing a boxer, 'feints' a punch at his little son as they leave the hospital, is one of the most touching moments I've seen in a film. I really don't know why, but it just caught me.

And Yootha Joyce is always a joy, with a strangely (or perhaps not strangely) erotic aura.

That's my contribution to the thread. Thank you.
