I wonder if anyone can help me with a film I saw as a child (on TV) around 1970. I think it was about a maverick aircraft designer who was also a steam engine enthusiast. I seem to remember his boss telling him that he was 'fired' and he retorted with 'no I'm not, I resign!' I also seem to remember him burning toast on what would have been a very early hinge up type toaster. The main reason for asking is that I have a vague notion that the cottage he and his wife lived in in the film is on or near Turville Heath...I was there yesterday and that's what got me thinking about it. I had an idea that the protagonist was played by Rod Taylor but I've looked at his filmography and nothing seems to fit.

The prototype aircraft is the Handley Page Victor.

    memorable scene:
The main character cooking his breakfast on a shovel in the firebox of the steam engine.

I've always wondered if it tastes any better cooked that way?
