Story of mute girl

This is a black and white movie made in the 50's I think. All I remember is that a girl is playing on a construction site and there's an explosion that leaves her blind(and possibly deaf and mute). Any ideas?

Yes, could be. I have 3 films in mind: Esther Costello, Mandy(1952) and The Miracle Worker(1962), but I don't know which one has the explosion in it. I know the film is in B&W and the explosion happened at the beginning of the movie. It could have been a bomb.

It's Esther Costello, it's not a bomb, but a cache of old armaments from the 1916 Rising which explodes killing Esther's mother and rendering her disabled. But I have been wrong before.

Although this film has not yet had a UK DVD release, there is a region 2 spanish disc you can buy. The picture is decent enough, and you can of course watch it in english with or without subtitles.
