The John Gilling directed aviation drama High Flight (1957) airs on TCM Wednesday 20th May @ 15.00 and Thursday 21st May @ 10.50. Stars Ray Milland and Bernard Lee. It doesn't appear to have had a home video release.

Although it was filmed in CinemaScope, they'll probably show the pan and scan transfer. I can't receive TCM, or I'd look in to find out.

TCM rarely ever show anything other than the original aspect ratio nowadays - many films in HD as well.

High Flight is on You tube in its entirety. An excellent film.

TCM DID show a pan and scan print after all. It was also flagged as HD but certainly didn't look it.

I suspect that those pan and scan transfers were made at least fifty years ago, in the days of 405 line cathode ray tube televisions, so HD is something they can't ever be.
