I've been meaning to post this for a while so here goes. Saw this film possibly in the late 80's or 90's on TV. I came across it by accident one night and was completely hooked, it turned out to be really good and I've never forgotten it, but what is the name of this film?

Set in Australia (possibly an Australian film) a light aircraft crashes in a very remote area that is a vast forest. An elderly man who lives in the area with his wife, hears about the crash either on TV or radio. He knows the area well and decides to go out on foot to try and find the aircraft and the survivors, one of which is badly injured, believing he is their only hope, but against his wife's wishes as it will take days. One scene I remember is the old man looking through binoculars across a vast densely wooded valley. Far on the other side he sees a small area of burnt/damage trees. He knows it is probably a lightening strike, but decides to check it out anyway.

Apologies if I have remembered parts incorrectly.

Brilliant. Thanks mariocki, how did you get it? Exactly as I remembered. Now all I have to do is try and get a copy. Never released on VHS or DVD but some kind person has put it on YouTube although the quality is quite poor. Anyone any ideas?

The crash of the Stinson is a true story, and apparently Stinsons had a reputation for it. Nearly as bad as Noorduyn Norsemans.

There is a tourist centre in the Lamington Nat PArk called O'Reilly's, near the crash site. I'm not sure if the owners are anything to do with the Bernie O'Reilly of 1937. I drove up there a few years back, and it's quite a hair raising mountain track.

Some kids in a large Landcruiser had failed to take a bend. The car shot out into thin air and then dropped about 3m wedging itself. The front was pressed against a big tree and the rear was pressing onto the cliff face, with the wheels spinning freely.

When I drove down 5hrs later the car and kids were gone. It must have cost a lot to get a crash truck with a crane to go up there.

I have found someone in Australia who is selling Riddle of the Stinson on DVD. This is what they say ;-

"The quality is the best that is available. The original master was destroyed many years ago in a flood at the Kennedy-Miller office. The version we provide is taken from the Network 10 archives in Australia. It is presented commercial-free and uninterrupted. There is (and never will be) an official release of this film. It is important to know that the film is FREE and payment is for postage and materials only. We have been given permission from Kennedy-Miller to provide this film freely."

The cost is A$ 5.00 (2.38). Bargain! I've ordered my copy.

No. I'm not even a real girl, but I am the arch enemy of digital.

Several vendors have the DVD; rareandcollectibledvd
Can be DL from YouTube, but its a bit blurry even at 480p.
