About 20 years ago I turned the TV on late one evening just in time to catch the last couple of minutes of a film. It ended with melting wax figures in what appeared to be a small church or chapel. It was a colour film and I got the impression that it was maybe some kind of a mid sixties psychological/horror type film. I tend to think it was probably on a BBC channel. I'd love to discover what film it was - I'm certain it wasn't House of Wax .

No it wasn't Crucible of Terror but thanks for your suggestion Quentin C. Just to add, the wax figures (maybe a dozen figures or so ) occupied the pews just the way the congregation would. I may be wrong here but there were possibly tilted camera type shots of them melting.

The IMDB summary of Devils Rain says: 'A bunch of Satanists in the American rural landscape have terrible powers which enable them to melt their victims'. This sounds a definite possibility. Thanks SilverTyne I'll watch it and report back.

Chamber of Horrors with Patrick'O'Neil or Plague of The Zombies which has a fiery ending and the burning zombies could look like melting wax figures ?

Hammer's Paranoaic has a fiery ending set in a chapel although I don't remember any wax figures.

I've now watched Devils Rain but unfortunately it's not the one. The burning chapel at the end is sort of similar, but compared to Devils Rain, the figures in my film merely softened and maybe dripped a little.

I'll check out the other suggestions.

I've now checked out the films suggested but unfortunately it isn't one of them, but thank you for the suggestions. I think I'll start to have a look through the Radio Times archive on the BBC Genome website. It might take a while, but if it was indeed on BBC, hopefully I'll find it.
