I live near the old Southall Film Studios and

wonder if anyone has info on the film titles made

there until they closed in 1960..all the usual

book references have little history so would be

grateful for any info. The last film made there

was The Runaway Bus with Frankie Howerd in 1956

after that they were used for TV shows.

Well it might not have been the last one.

The IMDb lists just 3 films made there:

    The Runaway Bus (1954)

    Account Rendered (1957)

    There's Always a Thursday (1957)

Although you should bear in mind that although it's an amazing source of information the IMDb isn't guaranteed to be complete or 100% accurate in any particular.

I'd add Child's Play (1953) to the aforementioned - and perhaps a few Group 3 productions.

"The Trollenberg Terror" (1958)(aka "Crawling Eye") was also filmed there.

Hmmm yes! "The Gay Dog" starred Wifrid Pickles as Jim Gay, a north country miner with a champion greyhound. Also starred Pet Clark and the always wonderful Megs Jenkins. Quote: "Straightforward version of stage success lacks charm"

The word "gay" had an entirely different meaning in 1954 and I remember even in 1959, one film magazine, reviewing the film Gigi, had a big headline that read: "Chevalier is Gay!" Today, he'd probably sue the publishers.

It was said that a box of OMO left on show in a window ment Old Man Out. There will now be a short break while you all go and have a look in the kitchen.

A real shot in the dark this. I've been asked to add Southall Studios to the site but can't find an accompanying shot of the studio buildings.

    Anybody help?

After scouring the web and my reference books to no avail, I have e-mailed the archives at Ealing's Public Libraries to see if they can help. I'll let you know if anything comes of it...

    Reply from the archivist...

They have no pictures of Southall Studios in the Ealing Borough libraries. They hold a number of old newspapers, but even if they could find a pic they reckon the source materials would give an awful scanned image.

Have to keep ploughing through those secondhand bookstalls now...
