Hi, I am desperately trying to find an old movie which has the typical hollywood type scene of the 1920 - 1940 period featuring swimming pool and overblown luxury(the whole glamour). I am a student in my final year and looking for some additional research for my dissertation. I am going to the British Film Industry in London, but they need advance notice of film titles in order to pull stills. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Thanks James, I'll see if the BFI have any appropriate stills for the film.

Lance, apparently I am allowed access to up to 10 films, so I'll put Sunset Boulevard on my list. Thanks

Not a british film as well, but HELLZAPOPPIN (1941) has a very funny poolscene in it.

Hi, Here are two British films from the 30s that you could check out:

ROADHOUSE (1934) produced by Gaumont British with Gordon harker and Violet Lorraine. The "Road House" of the title has a dance floor in traditional night club style that opens out into a swimming pool during the finale of the film.

OUR FIGHTING NAVY (1937) directed by Herbert Wilcox is a naval drama about an uprising in a small South American country. UK battleships are sent there to sort things out etc. Near the start of the film there is a sequence at a swimming pool where one of the naval officers (American actor Richard Cromwell) challenges his girl friend to a race.

    Best wishes

Thanks Mike and Wilfried. Having had some great responses, let's just hope that the swimming pool features on at least one of the stills. I'm really not sure how they decided what gets captured on a still and what doesn't! I'm about to mail my list to the BFI, so again thanks to all those who reponded.

    Regards - Julie
