Gold (or Silver) Robbery Film

I am seeking the name of a movie seen on tv at least 30 years ago regarding a silver or gold robbery in a foreign country in which the

robbers melted the gold or silver into the front bumper of an expensive car in order to smuggle the silver or gold out of the country.



They were caught when the bumper, due to its excessive weight, fell off the car when it hit a bump when it was being driven onto a boat to be exported to another country, probably european.



I suspect the film was British made, and it may have been a comedy, but that's all i can really remember about it.

In Los Angeles, Eddie calls his sweetheart, Fran Werner (Jeanne Cooper), and she meets them at a warehouse where they melt the gold and cast it into hub caps and bumpers on a new Cadillac. As they drive onto the freeway, heading for a boat in San Diego, they are struck from behind by a car and the bumpers lock.

Could this be The Silver Bears, 1978 with Michael Caine? Another big robbery film from back then is The Midas Run, 1969
