I have a memory of this film as well. The murderer is confronted in a bed-sit by a woman and her boyfriend. I thought the Murderer was Barry Johns but I've been through everything he did on Imdb and can't find it. The Murderer Confesses all in the bed-sit goes didlo does a runner jumps from a footbridge to escape and gets trouser'd by a steamtrain. I'm sure he's an uncle of the girl or some member of her family. The boyfriend could also be in the police. I keep coming back to Barry Johns, if it's not him then it's somebody very much like him.

Sounds a bit like The October Man (1947), starring John Mills and Joan Greenwood. It had a bridge and a steam train at the end. Edward Chapman played the murderer, years before he was forever typecast as Norman Wisdom's Mr Grimsdale.

Actually, I think you may have meant Barry Jones and not Barry Johns.

I seem to remember a good one starring Harry H. Corbett as a serial killer murdering actresses and models. Was it called The Cover Girl Killer?

Not "OCTOBER MAN" I've got that. Not Harry H. Corbett as I would have remembered. Not Eric Portman as he don't look like Barry Johns. I'm sure this film has been disscussed on this Forum before.

Could be "MURDER IN THE FAMILY" 1938. But I think it's not.

The Clouded Yellow(1950) ends with Barry Jones, after trying to kill Jean Simmons, falling from a dockside warehouse and landing in front of an oncoming train. Maybe this is the one you're thinking of? :)

I think you'r correct Glyn. It must be "THE CLOUDED YELLOW" 1950 that I'm thinking of. I have a recollection of crane's so it could have been by the dockside. I don't get that eureka feeling that flows over one when you know it's right but I will have to bow to the evidence. Thanks for the hint.

In Seven Days To Noon Barry Jones plays the part of a mad government scientist who threatens to blow up London unless the British Government give up the nuclear bomb.

In the film he hides up in a bedsit keeping a woman tenant prisoner..

Could this be what you are thinking of..?

It sounds like several episodes of SCOTLAND YARD to me...or at least two or three I may have ssen that have gotten mixed up in my twergled brain. And also several Butchers' films.

Whilst we're on the subject of words that don't actually exist (like 'twergle' for instance), could Hackett or anyone else explain exactly how one "goes didlo"? It sounds like fun to me.

Thanks for the explanation. I am slightly dyslexic and when I read DIDLO I saw something completely different. I'll tell you how dyslexic I am - I once got an invitation to a toga party and went dressed as a goat!!!
