HELP PLEASE... I am trying to get together a collection of Jack Hawkins films of the fifties and this one eludes me at all attempts to find it.

Made in 1954 and directed by Guy Hamilton, if anyone can help with a copy I would be most gratefull.

    Cheers, Bob M.

I hope you also find a copy of 'the Long Arm', known here in the states as 'The Third Key'. The only copy I have was recorded from WGN Chicago's late night theatre. While it's just a good little movie, for some reason I have found myself watching this one many times. I have tried unsuccessfully to find a VHS or [better still] DVD copy. I am looking forward to some day seeing the original and hope to be awarded with new scenes cut from my copy as I was when I first viewed the DVD of 'The Cruel Sea'.

I've never seen 'The Intruder' and will now keep an eye open for it.

anthony - I'd be intrigued to hear how you recorded stuff off TV broadcasts in the 1960's - I first bought a video recorder in the late 1970's, when they were becoming more widespread.

Well, I had an audio tape recorder in the 1960's, as many did. First a Fidelity open reel-to-reel type, then later, in 1969, a Phillips cassette tape recorder. But I could only record the soundtrack of a film. What wouldn't I have give at that time to be able to record pictures as well as sound.

As far as I know, there were no domestic video recorders, either Betamax or VHS, in the 1960's and I didn't have a VHS video recorder until the mid 1980's.

Just out of interest, my Ferguson video recorder cost around £600 in the late 70's, and E-180 video tapes cost around £12 each!

Rob, I had a Fergy Videostar in the late 70's, lasted years, got relegated to the bedroom, and finally died aged about 12 years. Fantastic machine. Took me 18 months to pay for it and my wife was livid when I told her I had bought one on the never never!
