The Common Man role was first played on stage by Leo McKern who later played Cromwell in the film. Anyone who has seen the play will know that, aside from More himself, he is the central character.

I was always uncomfortable with the fact that the role was omitted from the 1966 film.

While not as good as the film (which is one of my favourites, especially Robert Shaw) it is worth a look for those who a haven't seen the play. Heston is pretty good as More IMHO.
My wife saw the stage play in Newcastle many years ago and still maintains that, despite Heston's Hollywood Giant status, Roy Kinnear comfortably stole the show.

Cinematographer and director Patrick Carey (1916 – 1994) was a prolific creator of beautiful landscape films in Ireland and further afield. He shot the river scenes in AMFAS as second-unit director.
