Bit like a segment (In the Picture) of Three Cases of Murder.
I Am Trying To Find A Old Film In Which The Couple Are In A Old House With A Portrait Of The House On The Wall..
When They Look At The Portrait One Day, They See A Figure Has Appeared On It, Which As The Days Pass Moves Nearer The House....
At The End Of The Film, They Look Again At The Portrait And See The Figure Is On The Doorstep.....
They Then Hear Knocking At Their Front Door.....
A Bit Vague, I Confess, But If Anyone Can Help,
It Would Be Great..
Thankyou.

SOUNDS GOOD, BUT TOO NEW 1954, THANKS ANYWAY IF ANYONE CAN SHED SOME LIGHT I WOULD BE GRATEFULL THANKYOU
The painting in *In The Picture* was hung in a gallery (not a house) and the two central characters went into the picture and the house shown in it. A man and a woman lived in the house.Originally posted by DB7@May 25 2005, 02:43 PM

This sounds very like one of M.R. JAMES'S ghost stories, THE MEZZOTINT. I have this on tape from around the mid 1980s. A picture gradually changes, with a ghastly figure progressively creeping towards an old country mansion. It was largely in black and white which would give the impression of a much earlier production.
I think M.R.James is very likely, but I seem to remember the same tale being 'read' on tv for children late 70s or early 80s. My recollection was that Robert Powell was reading it. I particularly remember the line "He's got in"!! Excellent stuff.Originally posted by aphra@May 25 2005, 08:37 PM

In 1969 they made a pilot for a new TV series called Night Gallery. Rod Serling introduced it / narrated it. It contained a portmanteau of three different stories...( similar to Dead of Night and later much beloved of Amicus ) The dead body walking closer and closer to the house each time the picture was studied was one of them..( the owner of the picture had killed / upset / or somehow pissed off his dead elderly relative and the old man was not about to take it lying down). Roddy McDowell was in it and it was called "Cemetery"...and it technically the first ever Night Gallery story.
Most notable because one of the three episodes "Eyes" was directed by an unknown called Spielberg the pilot was such a hit that a series was commissioned......... and the rest as they say is history.
The first series of "Night Gallery" is availiable on a three disc box set (apparently) and it also contains the pilot episode as an extra.
Good Hunting.

Thankyou for your help, will look it up...Originally posted by Guybrush Threepwood@May 27 2005, 05:37 AM

<LIKE THE PICTURE "GIRL ON STREET" !!>
I remember that NIGHT GALLERY pilot well. The greedy heir (Roddy McDowall) murdered his uncle by tormenting him with a series of slightly altered paintings of the man's creepy old house, featuring a shadowy figure walking toward the front door. But when the heir took possession of the family fortune, including the scary old house and painting...then the painting began to change before his eyes.Originally posted by PAULBATTERSON@May 27 2005, 09:51 AM

To help us to identify this film, do you remember:
- if it was a British (or American) production - I mean, spoken in English - or a foreign movie...
- do you remember if it was a feature or a featurette ? if it was a feature, the little synopsis you remember was perhaps only a little part of the story ?
- you mentioned a couple. A young couple, or older people ?
This kind of precisions can greatly help the identification of this movie.
Thank you...
i remember watching a old film on ch4.. about a old house which has a portrait of the house on the wall
as the days progress, a dark figure appears in the portrait. and gradually moves nearer the house..
the couple look at the picture and the figure is on the door step.. then they hear knocking at their front door.. it was a 1930's film and poor quality.. as i can remember...
please can you help.. i would love to obtain a copy of this film..
any help would be greatly appreciated....
sorry aboutdelay in getting back to you... would you be prepared to let me buy a copy... or let me know where i could get one.. many thanks,,.(aphra @ May 25 2005, 08:37 PM)

i am trying to find a film i watched years ago, in which a couple are in a old house with a portrait of the house on the wall,
They notice that a figure has appeared in the portrait.. (a man in a black monks habit/cloak) which as time progresses he moves nearer and nearer the house.. at the end of the film they look at the portrait, and see he is on the doorstep.. then hear knocking at thier own front door...
your kind assistance is appreciated..
