I know its a long shot but has anybody got a copy of "The Specials live at Colchester institute 1979"? I believe it was on the tv once on a programme which I think was called "rock goes to college" or something like that.

    Thank you,

    Steve.

Ah! The Specials..........what can I say.......just bloody brilliant.......one of my favourite bands in the world ever type thing......

I do have some Rock Goes to College footage, and some Specials footage, but I'm not sure I have the two combined.

I will have a rummage (my music stuff hasn't been transferred to DVD so the VHS tapes gather dust) and get back to you.

Shame, I'd love to have a copy. I'm not registered with e-bay as I'm a bit unsure about using it.

Somewhat off topic, I'm trying to get hold of the August 1994 edition of Record Collector which had an excellent comprehensive piece on Two Tone. I read it while visiting a related exhibition at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum here in Cov; it's part of our local history and culture. Roddy Radiation still does gigs in local boozers. I don't know where Jerry Dammers lives now, I believe Terry Hall lives down in Somerset, the others I'm not sure either, Lynval Golding occasionally turns up locally.

Their early demos as the Coventry Automatics (aka The Specials) on CD are worth a listen too.

Anything we can reassure you about?

    I would certainly recommend Ebay.

As long as you follow the basic "caveat emptor" rule.

Check a seller's feedback before buying.

Pay via a credit card with PayPal or similar wherever possible then there's a chance of a refund in case of dispute.

Most sellers are honest - but there are some rogues out there.

Just like in most other marketplaces.

I've never had the slightest problem although my daughter felt she was conned somewhat on one deal - luckily it was only a pound anyway.

You have to be really careful on E-Bay. As a fan of Tinker Tailor I bid on E-bay for a Russian doll and won, three days later this 23 year old from Moscow turned up in the back of a container lorry! I wondered why the postage and packing charge was £900!

But she's quite happy in my loft for now, and when my wife goes out I get her down to play with! She's picking up the language quite well now, five new words she learned yesterday "No, I haff a headek!"

The postage and packing amount is worth checking on e-bay because some people will charge an awful lot of p&p on a small value item thus making it a high value item for you to buy. If they don't state a postage price you need to ask them before you bid otherwise you may get a shock.

Pirate DVDs are also common on e-bay, so if it doesn't say it's the genuine article you have to ask them via the question link. I bought a television series believing it to be "pucker", and I received an unlabeled copied effort that would only play on a PC! The seller had long gone, but he'd set up again shortly afterwards under a new ID (he'd used exactly the same advert text as his previous ID) so I managed to get a refund!

There are also many scams in trying to get your PayPal account information via e-mail, supposedly from PayPal. Don't ever use the URLs in the e-mail because you are taken to a bogus site that is almost a carbon copy of the PayPal one. If in doubt always login to PayPal direct and check your messages because anything they send to you by e-mail is also held in your message box on their site. I've received several bogus ones this year, and you can normally tell because of the font style, and also the From address is not quite correct for PayPal.

Fran, you've highlighted the very reasons why I've avoided e-bay.

That's all right then, it leaves all the bargains that can be had to us more adventurous souls
