I am looking for it too. However BBC can get a copy for you from Worldwide for £195 + VAT + shipping. I dont want it that bad, do you?

I have a good copy of this.
Is there any way at all that I can get hold of a copy of this? I run Apocalyptic and End of the World Fiction, Film and TV at EmptyWorld and the copy I have is a very poor VHS and the sound drops out half way through the film :-(

Please PM me, or grab my email details from my profile or from the web site above.

    Hi folks,

I'd love to get a good copy of Z for Zachariah on DVD or VHS PAL - hope someone can help! I remember it well from the original transmission and have had to make do with reading the book. Please get in touch if you have a copy available - hope I have something you want for trade

There is a DVD of Z for Zachariah but apparently not commercially available - just a BBC special for broadcasters? Still hoping to get a good video or TV/DVD quality version of this (anyone?). Maybe the Beeb will transmit it again sometime, as they did with the Flipside of Dominic Hyde recently. Time for a season of the best sci-fi of the last 50 years from the Beeb methinks! Would be better than some of the junk being thrown onto BBC3 and BBC4 lately!

There's a copy of Z for Zachariah on emule but unfortunately there are some major errors in it:-

Z for Zachariah [BBC - Play for Today - 1984].avi

    ED2K-hash: 2355D077E2482D37121A19AD6CE14EAB

    Size: 1.12 GiB (1,205,895,168 bytes)

    Video: DivX 5 320x240 30.00fps

    Audio: PCM 22050Hz stereo 705Kbps

    Length: 1:57:36

    Audio/video desync:0:00:00-1:09:03

    Bad video segment: 1:09:03-1:33:50

    Bad audio segment: 1:09:10-1:57:36

1:33:00-1:55:57 Audio from 6 Dates With Barker: The Odd Job (1971) with commercials

There is also someone selling DVD's of a VHS rip on ebay for £6 which I have bought.

Once I receive it I will be ripping it to AVI & posting it on the Pirate Bay so keep your eyes open for it. (I'll leave a link here once it's up)

    Hi "Made of Technetium",

I think you might find that your best option for a good copy of Z for Zachariah is to trade within the Britmovie forum - that copy on eBay looks pretty fuzzy from the screen grab accompanying it - maybe you could post again to report on its quality when you get it? If it's not too good, send me a PM if you want to trade for a really good copy (which I have got after a long time searching, thanks to another member of this fabulous forum!).

    Hello "Pip"

Got it today, As for quality I would say yes it is a bit blurry but more than watchable (my subjective opinion anyway), It is a VHS rip after all.

You do tend to find all screen grabs loose a bit of quality on the original video, A constantly changing frame tends to hide a multitude of sins (something video compression relies on).

So thanks for the trade anyway, but this one will do me

Then again if you do have a really good copy then why don't you put it up on a torrent site (preferably The Pirate Bay) & share it with the world.

£195+ for a film! Blimey! Surely no film is worth that much?

Well since nobody seems interested in sharing their "Good Quality" versions I've now put my copy up on The Pirate Bay:-

Z for Zachariah (BBC Play for Today, 1984) - The Pirate Bay

I've Included a short sample so maybe someone with the "Good Quality" version could download it & comment.

If you're not familiar with The Pirate Bay you'll need a BitTorrent client to download the file. I would recommend:-

    µTorrent - Powerful BitTorrent Client

The pleasure's all mine. Hopefully the guy on ebay selling it will loose a bit of business now & as for trading that is a bit better than trying to make money out of it, but I am a firm believer of sharing for free (what goes around comes around). The big drawback with trading is what if you have nothing the other party wants? Whereas with sharing you might have nothing they want but someone else might but not want what they have.

Anyway I'm gibbering now & this isn't really a forum for debate on the morals of file sharing.
