I never saw the documentary, why did Trevor Eve pack it in? The quality of that series was excellent I also recorded a vintage episode of Minder what a joy, the episode where Arthur arranges a darts competition, one of the best, full of lovely one-liners, great characters and quality acting.

In the documentary Trevor Eve said he wanted to try new things etc, mentioned that Michael Medwin called him a bloody fool; and although not regetting his decision; wishes he had made a few more; or something along those lines. I had to agree with Liz Crowthers comments, when asked what legacy the show had left; she replied `It was Bloody good`

name='batman']Has 'Mocking Bird' been repeated before .... I seem to remember seeing it recently (last 2 yrs) but have never had satellite TV so it must've been on terrestrial.

There were a few shown on BBC1 weekday afternoons in 2002 and 'Mocking Bird' also got a later repeat as part of BBC2's 'Cops On The Box' season.

That would be it .... 'Cops on the Box', I watched several of that season. Cheers Mariocki.

I watched Mocking Bird and the Sunday Nights documentary. One of my favourite series and something of a rarity due to rights issues over the music. Trevor Eve didn't want to play the same role forever. He wanted to do theatre and other TV roles. It's one of those increasingly rare examples of a series quitting while it's ahead.

Has anyone got straight-to-dvd copies of the BBC repeats perhaps?

I've got the BSB showings which are complete but not crash hot quality.

    Hi,

Does anyone have good quality copies of the following 6 episodes of Shoestring on DVD:

preferably, originally recorded straight to DVD on UKTV Drama:

(I've read that some of the BBC repeats were cut)

    1 Private Ear

    2 Knock For Knock

    3 Higher Ground

    4 Uncertain Circle

    5 Listen To Me

6 Nine Tenths of the Law

Im looking for good quality DVD copies of these episodes to complete my collection.

Good price paid via PayPal. Many thanks

Did anyone record today's Shoestring episode, 'An Uncertain Circle'? I am so angry with Alibi, this is the second time this episode has recorded without sound (the third if I count both of today's showings). It seems that when the channel starts transmission in the morning, sometimes the sound isn't restored without switching channels. I cannot believe that this has happened on both occasions with the same episode. So, so angry ....

    Hi,

Be aware that these broadcasts are edited repeats too.

    Shoestring...what a great show.

I really liked the episode that featured Toyah.

I think Trevor Eve is really proud of the show.

I, too, love the show but am horrified that a series shot in Bristol consistently used non Welsh actors with dreadful accents instead of real Welsh actors!

You should try living in Norfolk ..... Kingdom was a prime example of terrible accents!

Quite...back then any Welsh actor worth his salt was a long way from Wales...it's different now, with Cardiff being the centre of the BBC universe.

    SHOESTRINGTrevor EveBBCTV

Im off down to Bristol and Western Super Mare for ten days to work on this.

Im playing a baddie and Christopher Biggins is my boss.

Also in the cast are, Toyah Wilcox, Chris Jagger (Micks brother) and Gary Holton.

Gary was to go on and star in Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

My main job on the show was to look ugly and hassle Gary and to make his character behave himself. A slap here and a slap there.

In one night scene I throw him off the pier into the sea (Two takes) at Weston-Super-Mare.

(We used stuntman Stuart Fell for the shot)

A lot of the time I would help the crew keep Joe Public from staring down the lens of the camera. It was called public liaison work. The BBC has a policy that if someone is in the way of the shot the first words you say is Excuse me sir/madamI spent a lot of time on the beach with those lines.

Sadly Gary Holton died a few years later and still a very young man

I have Shoestring transferred from video and it still holds up pretty well, though that could just be me getting very much older !
