One of the pleasures in watching 1960s ITC series like THE SAINT on ITV4, is to see the guest stars..

Last night's episode featured Louis Maxwell and William Sylvester - two of my favourites.

William seems to be almost forgotten (except for 2001: A Space Odyssey). Interestingly, his debut film

from 1948 (US title: Christ in Concrete/ UK title: Give Us this Day) is available on DVD from the USA.

    Has anybody seen this?

    Is it Recommended?

And I haven't seen Louis (apart from Miss Moneypenny) for many a year!

Incidentally, her real nane is Louis Hooker - I wonder why it was changed...

Had Lois been a new actress in the late 1980s perhaps the name "Hooker" would have been preferable to her chosen one of "Maxwell" and been far less of an embarassment! I wonder if she chose her new surname over a cup of instant coffee as Captain Bob is rumoured to have done?

William Sylvester is not forgotten here. For many a year it seemed like he, Lee Patterson, Robert Ayres and a handful of others were the only US/Canadian actors in movies in the UK.

I last saw Lois M at a Bond gig in Pinewood - she was healthy and happy. I don't know if she had formally retired by then, but she was still obviously enjoying life....

Top lady ; she persuaded the organisers to use the loot to sponsor a trainee guide dog ; hence we funded the training of 'Miss Moneypenny' (what else ?)

It is amazing to think that her and Roger Moore are both pushing 80!! I remember their last outings in View to a Kill which doesn't SEEM that long ago and they still looked very youthful yet were both 58.

LOL That's the thing about working with a good (and sympathetic) Director of Photography on a top money film !

thats sad news, difficult to imagine that she was 80, doesn't seem that long ago that she was flirting with Roger Moore in the Bond films, she was the original and best Miss Moneypenny, lovely looking woman and popular amongst the Bond team and Bond actors.

My sentiments exactly christoph404. I was pleased that they gave her more to do in her last Bond film A View To Kill. Also, her response when Lazenby threw her Bond's hat at his wedding to Tracy in OHMSS was very moving. Great acting from a great lady.

I "spotted" Lois recently in an episode of UFO on telly, she was playing

the secretary, slightly tongue in cheek.

Very sad news. I was sorry that she wasn't promoted to play 'M', I think she would have been excellent.

She's credited on the IMDb as appearing in A Matter of Life and Death as her first, uncredited, screen role. I didn't add that to the IMDb. Has anyone ever spotted her in it?

Sad news. She was the best of the Moneypenny's and her flirtations with 007 was a contribution to the success of the Bond films.

    Lois Maxwell - R.I.P.

RIP, Lois. Hard to believe she was 80.

    The original and best Moneypenny.

God bless you Lois. Thanks for those wonderful cheeky smiles when you played Moneypenny.

    An excellent flirter. RIP.

It's amazing to think that she appeared in as many as 14 Bond films.

I'd have to agree that she was the best Moneypenny.

    A very sad loss.

It is kind of ironic that it proved easier to replace James Bond himself. Lazenby's best 'acting' scenes were probably those with Lois Maxwell - especially when he dictated his pompous resignation letter and she double-crossed him.

That surpised me. Looking at her IMDb credits, I see she did work in England before her Hollywood career.
