the most haunting music[/b]
Anyone know what this music is?

Can I share with you all the surrealist war film “Castle Keep.
To those who have never seen this great movie I urge you to put this right at the first opportunity.
From the opening credits we are treated to the most haunting music and later to the stunningly beautiful Astrid Heeren (she of the famous “windmills of your mind glider scene).
The film deals with the futility of war, and boasts Burt Lancaster and Peter Falk, amongst a fine cast. The mix of surrealism and action are perfect. The statement by one of the soldiers “all of us had been killed twice, some of us three times says it all. This small group of ghost men attempt to stop a huge German advance during the battle of the bulge.
They have the choice of pulling back, or staging a last ditch defense which would of course destroy the irreplaceable historic castle.
Absolutely not to be missed.

Original music by Michel Legrand. I don't know that it's been released separately from the film.
Steve
Although the details of this film are a vague memory, not having seen it for over 30 years, it still fondly sticks in my mind.
The music is available on this 4-CD set, which also contains some other classic themes by Michel Legrand:

While the first and only time I've seen the film, and then only the first half hour, was years ago, it is still a film I remember, so it must have been memorable.
I would also add, the cast includes Patrick O'Neal, Jean Pierre Aumont, Scott Wilson, Tony Bill, Bruce Dern, Astrid Heeren, Michael Conrad, and Al Freeman, jr.
I've never seen it, but I notice it is on tonight (02/01/06) on ITV4 at 7pm
