This is one of the Daily Mail's FREE DVDs from W H Smiths (UK) (sometime in the next 10 days).
Love this film based upon the Lifemanship boks of Stephen Potter. Alastair Sim is in his element as Potter as is Terry-thomas as the "cad". Great cameos too from peter jones 7 dennis price as the car salesmen and Ian Carmichael playing his usual likeable but naive character.
Particular scenes I enjoy are Sim's final piece to camera & the two tennis matches. priceless stuff!

Yes I know - what a great bunch of films they're giving away - a rare reason to buy the Holy Grail other than for pet bedding.(julian_craster @ Apr 25 2006, 09:00 AM)

One of the greats. Unfortunately earmarked for an American remake. Makes me shudder. At least when it bombs we can all say "Hard Cheese!"
It's been remade and is due out in the US in September.
That'll be good then!(JamesM @ May 31 2006, 08:27 PM)

How can you remake perfection? One of the best and funniest films ever. The cast were brilliant and who could ever forget the tennis match? Priceless. Some things are best left alone!
That's really grim news!
Ditto couldn't have pooed it better.(Miss Fritton @ Apr 25 2006, 09:03 AM)

I bet aaron cannot bear to read this post.
I think these Hollywood remakes of British classics are being actively promoted by CANAL PLUS UK, as a means of exploiting the properties that they own (such as SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS, DAM BUSTERS, LADYKILLERS, KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS) .
Even if the remakes are rubbish [which they usually are] CANAL PLUS
and the original producers estates would receive a percentage
of the box office of the new film, plus DVD sales etc etc.
Like eveything else, it is all about money £££££ $$$$$$$

School for Scoundrels has to be one of the most entertaining and complete films ever made. I never tire of watching Ian Carmichael making that wonderful transition from loser to consumate hero. Nor do I tire of watching the delicious Janette Scott, who sadly faded from the British film scene. Making the film must have been a joy, as having completed the casting, it would have been a case of sitting back whilst Terry Thomas, Alistair Sim and Ian Carnichael let rip with their hallmark screen personas.
Apart from the witty screenplay and superb characterisation, this flick offers hope to all the Henry Palfrey's of this world.
I'm fortunate to own this magnificent film on DVD.
The sheer class, professionalism, skill and craftsmanship that went into the making of this film means that it will always remain one of the best of British.![]()
I stumbled across this on C4 on Wednesday. An absolute classic. Probably made on a tiny budget too.
I looked up Ian Carmichaels Austin Healey (PJB 828), and Terry-Thomas' 'Bellini' (Actually an Aston Martin DBR3) (PAP625) on the DVLA website, and both cars are still on the road today, although the Aston is now registered under a different number.....
Watching The Saint today on itv player the episode The Fast Women features a car which is acalled a Bellini
SFS is definately in my top 10 British films. The main cast are all fantastic and Kynaston Reeve's 'General' always makes me smile!Originally Posted by andytaft44
Especially the way he continually berates TT. Peter Jones and Dennis Price are brilliant as the dodgy car dealers.
A true classic

Have a look at the British Film Studios forum at Stephen Pickard's 'In Production' posting. Under the heading "The Awful Danger of Making a Classic" is an article of interest to fans of SFS.
