My Mother has asked me to find the name of a film for her. It may have starred Deborah Kerr but she is not certain but the actress was a blonde. Her hair was in a chignon - whatever that is. The hero and heroine had to seperate during the course of the film but at the end of the film pass each other on a station platform without seeing one another. It is in colour. Probably a film from the 50s but not certain.

Could the film have been Perfect Strangers (1945) [aka Vacation from Marriage]?

Robert (Robert Donat) and Catherine (Deborah Kerr) Wilson have a quiet little marriage until WWII separates them for three years. Serving in the navy dramatically transforms both of them and they realize how much they resented their old mundane life together. Both dread their inevitable reunion and separately decide to ask for a divorce, but is the marriage really over?

When Deborah joins the WRNS she is very innocent but Dizzy Clayton (Glynis Johns) soon shows her the ropes.

By the end, when Robert & Catherine meet up again, they have both changed so much in the years away, due to the war and their experiences in it, that they don't recognise each other.
