Apparantly the hotel that inspired the great comedy series 'Fawlty Towers' is to be re-launched this week after a makeover.

Actress Prunella Scales, who played Sybil, was due to relaunch the Gleneagles Hotel in Torquay by unveiling a plaque at the hotel which mentions its connections to 'Fawlty Towers'. Sybil was due to arrive in red Austin 1100, echoing the scene where Basil thrashed his car with a tree branch.

The origional Gleneagles was to be flattened by property developers but the Torquay Council refused planning permission.

The "new" Gleneagles is now a modern 41-room hotel.

Shame they couldn't rename it 'Fawlty Towers' but I suppose John Cleese owns the name.

Of course, the "hotel" seen in the series was at Wooburn Green in Bucks. It became a night club, burned down mysteriuosly and is now I believe an housing estate.
