I did use Billy in a Rediffusion TV Play.

    Hello John,

The Television Play was called 'Strictly For The Sparrows' though I do not know the song. If anyone recalls the Toyota Yaris ad which was shown a few years ago, that was Billy Fury singing 'Wondrous Place'.

    Regards

I have Play it Cool but can only copy to VHS - which I would be delighted to do if you cover the cost of the video and postage.

    John,

Regarding your tv production of 'Strictly For The Sparrows'.....

Was this adapted as the 'B' film STRICTLY FOR THE BIRDS, starring Tony Tanner

(his film debut I think...) ?

I saw this film as the supporting film to CHARADE (Cary Grant) in 1963........

The song Billy Fury sang in 'Strictly For The Sparrows' was his first single Maybe Tomorrow which peaked at no. 18.

Hello all...i'm a new member and was wondering if anyone can help with this question ?

I have been looking for a while for a couple of Billy Fury movies for the wife , "play it cool" & "i've gotta Horse" , i have scoured the usual places like shops etc but to no avail. On searching on ebay i have found various sellers selling them stating that they are "public Domain" and now copyright free !!

Anyone know if this is true , and also , how can you check if a movie is truly public domain ?

    cheers , mr jolly.

Sellers on eBay have been know to tell fibs

These films are certainly not "public domain"

How to check is harder, the rules are complicated. It's essentially that a film made in the UK remains in copyright under UK law for 70 years after the death of the last of the primary creators (usually taken as director, producer & cinematographer). The period of time has varied over the years but is always a period after the death of the last of the primary creators. The copyright law is different in the US so the eBay sellers may be claiming public domain in ignorance. But US law doesn't apply to British films, even to a US release of them.

Both of Billy's 1960s films have been released on VHS in the UK by DD Video

    (but not released on DVD).

If buying on E-BAY *make sure* the seller sends you the original VHS tapes and not worthless illegal bootleg DVDs or copy tapes !
