One of my favorite films. Mirren's performance was brilliant- I thought she was the real Queen- wanted to curtsy to the screen- my only problem was the casting of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. I think they should have cast a British actor. I would have loved to see Robert Hardy in the role.
He would have done it with sensitivity, bringing out the Duke's wonderful qualities, and he played Siegfried Farnon so masterfully, I know he could have done wonders bringing out the more " interesting" side of the Duke's complex character.
He has a great track record playing real-life characters- royal ones included. His poortrayal of Prince Albert was brilliant.
To see him portray the DOE would be hysterical!

When they saw "A Question of Attribution", the Alan Bennett TV play about The Queen & Anthony Blunt, Palace officials said that when Prunella Scales entered the room with her corgies, they had to resist the urge to stand up and bow

I enjoyed this film very much and felt that the standout performance was Michael Sheen as Blair. It's portrayed in the film as useful spin for Blair and I think Michael managed to show this delicate tightrope walk excellently.
