I remember seeing a black-and-white film in the 1960's, but I think the film was made in the late 40's or 50's.

Two school girls are friends. One is Jewish and one is either Protestant or Catholic. They have been taught that if they attend each other's church/synagogue that, "God will strike me dead." They do it anyway just to see.

I remember British accents and the fact there were no adults there. I remember wondering how their parents didn't know they were up to this.

    Any clues? thanks!

If one of the girls is a boy it could possibly be Hand in Hand (1960).

I remember seeing that on TV when I was a child, but hadn't recalled the title before now!

After checking out the details on imdb, I am convinced the movie I was remembering is actually Hand in Hand. The little girl was indeed a boy! Thanks for the info. I've been wondering about this one for a few years.

Did the little girl drown, or did she survive? I can't remember.
