This isn't a request for an actual copy of 'Testament of Youth', but merely a rant about it's availability.

My wife had been after this for years. The only version available in the UK appears to have been Acorn's grossly over-priced VHS set. Even used, these went for a small fortune. Our old off-air recordings finally bit the dust a few weeks ago so I began to look again without luck.

Then, while searching e-bay for John Mills films, I found it. A 5 DVD, brand new and sealed set for under £30 ..... from Greece!!!!! The box art etc is all in Greek but the menus are easy to follow and the sub-titles removable. Picture and sound quality is excellent. She is so happy.

I expect this has been debated here before but why does this type of situation happen. A BBC production available via a non-BBC distributor in UK only on VHS and then deleted and the DVD's available in another country.

I expect the answer is all about market forces and sales figures etc but surely they couldn't be selling more copies of this series in Greece than in the UK.

    Rant over.

    Bats.

ps - I picked up a very good 'proper' DVD of 'The Vicious Circle' as well.

There are several Greek sellers on e-bay and they appear to have lots of British films for sale. I also picked up a 'proper' copy of The Frightened City which is of very good quality.

Brilliant news - I have the Greek version as well but will probably double dip with the UK release. Such a great series.
