I'm sure Aunty Beeb will be re-showing them again this Xmas. Dunno, something to do with MR James' traditional Xmas story telling.

Good luck with getting hold of a copy of this… just to mention that if no one here can assist then The Yorkshire Television Casting of The Runes is currently available on DVD…

i'm not so sure-i read on 'ghosts and scholars' website that the bbc are likely to skip the new'ghost story for christmas' adaptation for this year due to a 'tight budget'! (no doubt that they've already spent it on showing the usual crap american blockbuster that everyone has seen ten times already) does anyone have any news on this bad decision?

Well said and what a stunner this one is... I once went to a live gig in the late sixties where a creditable Jimi Hendrix tribute band were playing... on one wall they had one of those classic light shows, achieved I think with oil and moving some glass circles around and on another wall they projected Night of The Demon... I can still see that big demon lumbering along the railway track!

I really like the BBC adaptations of the M.R. James stories. There is simplicity and understatement in them that allows the pertinent features of the stories to gradually create a deepening sense of unease. The simplicity with which the particular evil in a given story is presented is never over the top and results in some genuinely creepy imagery.

The gypsy children ghosts in Lost Hearts are a truly haunting image to name but one of the series… its time the BBC released a box set!

The M R James productions by the BBC are among the creepiest dramas I have seen ... the only thing that comes close is ITVs version of The Woman In Black.

Have to agree on that - an example of great source material and imaginative film making coming together to make memorable short films. I hope the beeb continue to make new ones for christmas the way they have the last couple of years.

I would love to see some more BBC 'ghost stories at Xmas' too. If they're not going to make any more, please let them keep showing the ones they've already got.

EDIT: We've keep talking about his stories so I thought I'd see what M R James looked like ...
