I have just obtained the excellent Network DVD set of Randall and Hopkirk.

Mention is made of a Soundtrack CD of all of Edwin Astleys Haunting Excuse Pun!!Theme Music and Incidental Music used in the series.

Do any readers know if this CD release is planned for the near future and/or do they have any more info...?

    Thanks

I'd buy that in a flash!

Love the theme and all the incidental...but sorry, I know nothing about a CD.

The previously rumoured CDs seem to have disappeared, with music suites turning up as backgrounds to photo montages on the Network boxed sets of late. I too wish they'd release 'complete' CDs - I love having film or TV music with me for those long motorway drags...

Yes it has a number of new extras including Commentary tracks for a lot of the episodes...also 2 new documentarys and lots of others including Photo Gallerys as well as (silent) out takes and production shots that were not included on the Carlton Issue.

I too have the earlier set....I plan to sell my Carlton set on ebay and hopefully make half my money back.

    Best

I think I'm going to do the same. Don't think I'll be able resist this.

I also love the music...very atmospheric & provocative, isn't it? One of the many great aspects of R&H.

I knew the girl who ran the original fan-club. She even tracked down Marti's Mini which was still on the road in the early 90's. Looks a bit like my avatar funnily enough...but that's just a coincidence.

    DirectorsRoy Ward BakerRay Austin

    Jeremy SummersLes Norman..

    Cast IncMike PrattKenneth CopeAnnette Andre

Central Casting sent me to A.B.P.C. Studios to do some tests on a series they were about to make. It was tests for special affects to be tried out such as walking through walls etc.

I was to be Randall and a chap called Doug Lockyer was to be Hopkirk.

We did the tests over a period of a week and the following Monday the series got going for real..

I was asked Would you be a stand/in for Mike Pratt if he gets on with you..

Now Im going to say no to a years work. (Not)

We got on like a house on fire from the first day. Mike told me that he and Lionel Bart wrote all of Tommy Steels early songs, (Handful Of Songs, Rock With The Caveman and many more)

With all the years I spent with the bands we had something in common.

We used to have a sing a long in the dressing rooms or where ever we could.

    Douglas stood/in for Ken

We did twenty six episodes over the next year and Mike, Ken and I became good friends.

I would read the other actors lines in the script so Mike could learn his.

Every two weeks we would get a new guest cast and I really wish I had saved all the call sheets with all the cast names on. I wonder how many went on to greater things.

One I do remember was a wild looking man called Dudley Sutton.

He went on to play Tinker in Lovejoy and we still send cards at Christmas time.

(Merry Christmas Dudley, it saves a card.)

Every episode I would have to double for Mike for his driving shots or walking in and out of London buildings. We used a second unit camera team (small crew) for this as it was better for Mike to be in the studio saying the words.

Although I appeared in a few crowd scenes during the series my claim to fame are those immortal words I say to the onlookers as Hopkirk is run down by the bad guys car.. I compose myself and utter Hes dead

I had a few fan letters in after that scene was shown on TV suggesting I go back in the timber game.. (It wasnt even my voice, it was dubbed..)

When Mike had days off I had to find other film jobs to do.

We was only paid 5 a day and you only got paid if you worked

Lucky for me they were making other series in the studio and I would go in the bar and find an A.D. from Department S. or the Avengers and see if they could use me for a couple of days till Mike was back. So look out for me in other series playing a French/German/Spanish/American cop/waiter/soldier/sailor/crook etc

Ive been all around the world but Ive never left English shores.

We finished shooting the series in 1969 and had a huge party to celebrate.

(It took me a week to get over it)

Id like to say hello to the three main Stuntmen on the show, Rocky Taylor, Les Crawford and Frank ( Elstree Cowboy ) Maher.

Also my best regards to all the crew for making it a wonderful year.

    MIKEAITCHKEN1969.

MIKE PRATT DIED IN 1976LONG LIVE MIKE PRATT

Thanks for that, Aitch, really interesting. I thought Mike Pratt was an excellent actor. Whenever I watch an old ITC episode and he's in it I raise a glass to him.

Would that be Vanessa Bergman ?

The Mini was done up and sold (on EBay ??) in full R&H mode as I recall.

Yes, it was. Were you a member of her club? She was great. Used to like the newsletters very much.

Interesting about the Mini. Wonder what it fetched.

No, but I do know Vanessa from helping out with Elstree Screen Heritage. As far as I recall the Mini didn't end up being too extortionate - I tried to persuade my wife (who was driving a Mini Cooper herself at the time) but she wasn't going for it...

Oh, real shame you didn't buy it. I tried to find a reference to it on the internet...but to no avail.

    What's the Elstree Screen Heritage?

Talking of Mike Pratt...I used to see him around King's Road back in about 1974, when I lived there. He was hardly recognisable. Sort of hippy clothes and an ear ring.

Links to Elstree Screen Heritage - a group set up to promote the history of film-making in Boreham Wood & surrounds. We just had our second film festival in June, complete with guest appearances. ESH is doing a great job keeping that particular local history alive, and it's nice to see the old films up on the big screen.

I should mention the great support of Canal Plus UK who own so much of the Elstree back catalogue.

Ive just been watching my DVD copy of Randall and Hopkirk from Network....In the first Episode (Before Marty gets killed)Is that you who we can see who pulls up in Martys Mini and walks up to the front Door of Sorrensons House.

Its got to be a double for Kenneth Cope as you can only see him from the back!!

Mike, I did all of Randall's double and a guy called Doug Lockyer was the stand/in and double for Hopkirk,

1968/9 was a very happy year for all the team,,

    Thanks Aitch.

Ill certainly keep a look out for you in the rest of the episodes,

Thanks for that info.....it must have been great working on those Brilliant TV shows way back then.

Out of interest did you think when you were filming that the shows would still have a huge following nearly 40 years later!!

UPDATE!!....You have a mention on the commentary track for the first episode on the Randall and Hopkirk network release !!...Kenneth Cope recognises you as Mike Pratts stand in!!
