By The Sword Divided?
Bats.
This TV drama featured two feuding armies seen thru the eyes of the sons of the leaders on either side, one good (blonde hair ) and the other bad (dark !). The final scene is a battle between them where the two lads fight , and blonde ends up killing the dark haired boy in a sword fight. I've always thought it was called 'The Silver Sword',this was indeed broadcast in the early 70's but reading the synopsis it appears to be set in Poland during WW2 !
Can anyone identifiy the plot I remember ?

I have never heard of this series. Like smurf, I would be seriously interested in knowing more about it.

One of the actors in it was a famous Italian actor who played the part of Pope, one of the Medici's. I can't think of his name though, his English wasn't very good .It was definitely about that family and i thought it a brilliant series , i hope someone else can put a name to it.
Not Adolfo Celi (sp) in The Borgias??
I think thats it penfold! ,star man![]()
Although the series hankoler describes sounds like it, the programme smurf is thinking of is definitely not The Borgias. No brothers with different coloured hair in that and the Medici family were only peripheral characters. The ending also had no duel, the final episode featured Cesare Borgia being ambushed and murdered.

Dremble, I think you could be right ! I found the opening title on Youtube and the theme sounds familiar. I noticed that the entire series is available on DVD. It can't be The Bogias or ByThe Sword Divided as these were made in the 80's .One thing puzzles me though, I don't remember being aware of the dubbing at the time and have always been under the impression that it was made and set in Britain....but I could be wrong ! May well invest in the DVD , I'll keep you posted !
I watched The Flashing Blade again a few years ago and I do not remember anything about two brothers or a duel between them in the last episode. The story concerned the dashing Chevalier de Recci and his attempts to free his garrison from a siege. He is assisted by his noble servant Guillot. The final episode of this series was never shown in full on UK TV due to a technical fault. On the dvd a French language version of that last episode is included.

Oh dear ! Just when I thought I was getting somewhere......
Sword of Freedom (1957)? Long-running adventure series involving the Medici.

I'm not sure what of it (if any survives) and my memories of it are vague (I was a small child at the time), but Iain Cuthbertson and Roger Delgado were in it. It was about the various reiving families, on-going adventures thereof.
Another possibility is that there were a few runs of Shakespeare history plays in the '60s. It crossed my mind that you might be thinking of Prince Hal killing Hotspur in Henry IV.

I'm pretty sure it had nothihg to do with Shakespeare . It was definitely a children's series, all I remember was the rivalry between the two lads which was a sub-plot to the main action.I remember being quite shocked by the killing of the 'bad' son at the end, although by today's standards, it probably was'nt that graphic !

The Borderers wasn't a children's series, but Sword of Freedom was.
