I just got reminded of this one from the Scottish movie thread.

I remember a guy dressed as a bear and he was shot. Any takers?

    Offbeat sort of movie.

Possibly LADDER OF SWORDS (1989) which is about a man on the run in the Northumbrian moors with a dancing bear. I can't remember if he himself dressed up as a bear at some stage or not, but it was certainly an offbeat sort of movie.

Hi, my first post and a helpful one at that. At least I hope so.

Sounds like Bearskin (1989) starring the mighty Tom Waits and featuring Bill Patterson and Ian Dury.

Waits plays an ex-boxer Punch & Judy man who takes on a kid on the run as a dancing bear. I think the bear gets shot on a traffic island / roundabout. Not sure about the scottish connection though, mostly takes place in England.

Anglo / Portugese co-production from Film Four International and bit of a Euro-mess unfortunately. Available on DVD from Amazon from under a fiver.

Thanks to both of you. I reckon it is Bearskin. Maybe Bill Patterson made me think it was Scottish.

Happy to see mention of Ladder of Swords too. That rang instant bells when I looked it up.

Ladder Of Swords sounds intriguing, I'll have to try get hold of a copy.

I'm still marvelling at the fact that 1989 produced two Brit films that featured dancing bears on the run - possibly even both as circus acts dressed as bears. What's the odds on that eh? Maybe I should play the Lottery after all.
