If you can cope with Region 2, Network has a 2-disc edition with 'The Return of' as well...
I found two rather new DVDs of The Scarlet Pimpernel starring Leslie Howard and Merle Oberon. The problem is I don't know which one is the best. There hasn't been a decent copy of the film for years. Do you think there is a way I could figure out the quality of each without buying either of them?
The 1st One:
Amazon.com: The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934): Movies & TV: Merle Oberon,Leslie Howard,Raymond Massey,Nigel Bruce,Harold Young
The 2nd One:

I'd agree with penfold go for the network release they tend to be reasonably good, don't touch Madacy, or Alpha with a barge pole.

Network have licensed the title from Granada and as such will have far superior picture to all the other ones available in the US.
I do not understand how this film is being treated as though it was in the public domain in the US but it seems everybody sells this film on DVD there.
Can anyone tell me if the colourised version of this is still available anywhere? A friend of mine who is a Pimpernel completist is curious about it.
