This could be a very silly question, but why is it that every time the adverts come on one commercial station and I switch over to the commercial station to escape them, adverts are on there as well?

Are they collaborating so that adverts cannot be avoided?

Yes, they wait for you to change channels

As soon as you move away from a channel they stop running the ads on there and get on with the programmes for the rest of us.

Or maybe it is that they all tend to start and stop their programmes at the same time (on the hour or half hour) and have the same number of ad breaks so they are all showing ads at about the same time.

I'm sure they are, because this didn't seem to happen until relatively recently. I suspect they do it, not so much for the benefit of the advertisers, but more to deter you from changing channels. It has much the same effect of course. What they do for the advertisers is to make the sound LOUDER..... I've taken to muting during the advert breaks because the volume control on my remote is dodgy and it saves me getting up and turning the sound up and down manually.

AND notice if you will, they are also getting LOUDER ! So even if you leave the room to get a drink you still have to listen to them from the kitchen!

The one channel that particularly annoys me is Paramount Comedy, if I'm watching South Park I'm forever turning the volume up and down due to the louder adverts.
