    Hello there,

I remember a very good series (on BBC?) of ghost stories. A particularly good one was the Stone Tapes(was it situated in an American air base in the UK?).

I'd like to get hold od the series or, at the least, this episode

    Claire

Hi! Does anyone remember a brilliant play called The Stone Tapes from somewhere around 1972? It was a good thriller! Just wondered if anyone knows it or if it's avaialble??

    Cheers!

One more queston for Batman..... there was another good production about a guy who dumps his old car far away from where he lives and, to his horror, every few days he sees the same car but it's closer to his home.... It may have been called something like "Home To Roost" (no connection with the sit-com series). Anyone help on this?

    Cheers in advance!

Sorry, that one isn't familiar to me. Could be part of a series such as Hammer House of ... or similar.

Found it, but alas, it doesn't appear to be available on video or DVD. It was one of the Tales Of Unease series of 1970 (I think it was screened on BBC2) and was called "The Old Banger". I do still have the theme tune to Tales Of Unease recorded directly from the telly on reel to reel but no pictures....) Thanks to everyone for trying......if I find it anywhere, I'll post the info because it was a good one!

Correction: It was screened on LWT, not the BBC.

this seems to have been deleted from the catalogue which explains why it is going for 40+ on amazon! there are a few going for much cheaper on ebay but are generally used condition and have a few bidders!

I'm guessing the licensing deals with the BBC have expired. But as Bats said, at least they got it, and the Jon Miller's, out in the first place.

Thanks for all your help, everybody - got a DVD copy from ebay - a lot cheaper than the Amazon price

I'll keep a lookout for "The Old Banger" thriller - you never know what might turn up!

    Cheers all!

I bought this on dvd and what an absolute letdown. The story promised so much but it delivers so little as the acting is truly abysmal and wooden, particularly from Michael Bryant, who feels he has to shout every line that he utters! Most of the action is set within the confines of the studio so it immediately loses some of its atmosphere and potential to scare. I just had to resell this dvd on eBay it was that bad and I love a good ghost story. Two ghostly tales I can definitely recommend however, which were also televised, is 'The Signalman' and 'A Warning To The Curious' they are in a much better class and scarier too and also available on the overpriced BFI label.

horses for courses i suppose as i really liked 'the stone tape'(apart from the silly alien mascot thing)! 'the signalman' and 'a warning to the curious' are favourites of mine too as is 'whistle and i'll come to you' and the brilliant 'woman in black'!
