There is an official DVD release. It was released last year. Its a Spanish DVD (but an English print with an English track) and unfortunately the heavily cut R rated US theatrical print. I haven't got it but reports are that it is in the correct aspect ratio and of reasonable quality.

I have a DVD version which has inserted poor quality deleted scenes in the right places and also carries a BBC documentary about the film. It was sold as legit on Amazon but I'm not convinced. I'm pretty sure it isn't a Spanish release though.

No - the one you have didi-5 is a bootleg presumably taped off the BBC (who also showed the documentary and highlighted some of the deleted scenes; this is not all off the stuff cut by the BBFC but presumably the two main snips of the scene with Redgarve and a charred bone and the 'rape of Christ' orgy). The Spanish release is around on EBay but as I mentioned is the heavily cut US R version.

Yes, that sounds right. I know one scene is completely missing and unlikely to be restored to any released version. It is fairly well packaged though for a bootleg - my copy taped off the TV was showing serious signs of age. But we really need an official release, as close to a 'director's cut' as possible. Now we have The Music Lovers officially released there is hope, surely?
