I have been trying to find the name of a Horror film/made for tv flick for years now which scared the hell out of me for years.

I have been on a few Horror Forums but I still can't seem to find what I'm looking for:

I was about 4 years old (1981) and saw a late night film when I was ill. It was a 70's film and all I remember was a young girl being chased down a corridor by a lean, black dog. It cuts to a photo burning of the girl, then cuts to the dog crashing through a balcony window into a middle aged man's room at night. The man looks at the dog in absolute fear, it then cuts to the dog looking straight at the camera with greenish eyes (although that could have been the reflection of the camera). It then pounces at the man.

I've already dismissed the films The Omen, Cujo, Zoltan, and Dogs. Someone mentioned it could have been from a 70's murder mystery TV series in America called Quinn Martins Tales of the Unexpected (I am from England), but when I looked on the net for info on the show there wasn't any!

Hope you can help as it's doing my head in! Thanks.

    "Tales of the Unexpected" (1977)

..... someone asks about a 'dog episode' on the message board at the bottom of the page.

Thank you for spotting that with the dog episode. It's very frustrating as there is hardly any information on the web regarding this series, so I cannot see any images of the episode.

Has anyone got any memories/images of this cult series? ( It was called Twist in the Tale in England).

    Thanks

YouTube - Quinn Martin's Tales of the Unexpected

Apparently the UK title for this series was A Twist In The Tale. I remember the series under that title, especially one about a reporter who goes undercover to write an expose about the death penalty and ends up in the electric chair.

Thanks Bats. I'm hoping someone will remember this series and respond.

My memory of it was so clear but unfortunately I was so young I couldn't tell you any of the actor's names in it.

I think the dog was a Doberman (it was definitely black).

A Twist in the Tale is a unique anthology series starring William Shatner (best known and loved for his legendary portrayal as Captain Kirk in the immortal series and motion picture franchise, Star Trek). He is the enigmatic "Storyteller" and takes the audience on a magical journey into their imagination…

The series was filmed in photogenic New Zealand and storylines are set in the past and the future. It is a show for all ages but aimed at children and could be described as a cross between Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and The Twilight Zone. Overall "A Twist in the Tale" is an exciting and suspenseful show that is a must see.

There was a film called The Doberman Gang too.

It's not the same one as the Quinn Martin series .... that one's title was changed in the UK so as not to get confused with the Roald Dahl series.

"Tales of the Unexpected" (1977) - this is the Quinn Martin series, aka A Twist In The Tale.

"A Twist in the Tale" (1998) - this is the Shatner series

    Two other possible contenders:

    Play Dead (aka Satan's Dog)

Devil Dog: The Hound of Hell

    - both 70s. Check 'em out.

Thanks Gaumont for them suggestions. A couple of colleagues did suggest Devil Dog, but when I looked into it, the dog in the film is an Alsatian, and the one I remember from the film I saw is a black, Doberman type dog.

I'll look into 'Play Dead' though.

I don't think I'm ever going to find this film!

Just checked out 'Play Dead' and although the storyline sounds familiar, it was made in 1986 and I definitely saw this around 1981/1982.

The only other thing I remember was that it was on ITV (or Thames/Anglia then) and that when the dog crashed through the glass, the actor whose room he disturbed looked a bit like Gregory Peck?!

Yeah I think that was made in the 90's. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm getting to the stage where it's becoming slightly obsessive that I find out the scene I saw on the TV all them years ago (childhood therapy and all that)!

Any more suggestions would be most welcome.

I looked into that and it's not that one. Good suggestion though.

The more and more I look into it, 'Devil Dog - Hound from Hell' does seem to match everything I remember. I just thought the dog was black in the film I saw but maybe it was one of those grainy 70's films which made an alsatian look like a doberman!

    Has anyone seen Devil Dog?

Yup, I saw it myself but can barely remember it - I do recall that the demon dog grows to a huge size at one point, and appears to sprout bat wings. Unless, of course, memory is playing tricks.

Agreed, that episode was memorable TV, real nailbiting tension - would love to see it again.

Happy new year to you all. I was looking through my old threads over Christmas and my original question back in March 2008 concerned a TV Horror film which creeped me out as a child. By chance I was flicking through Youtube and somehow managed to find the exact scene I was looking for! Gaumont suggested Devil Dog: Hound from Hell and he is indeed correct: I had to go through the whole film (which was strangely dubbed in Spanish on the link I looked at), and three quarters of the way through I found the scene where the green eyed dog appears at a man's bedroom entrance. I thought the dog crashed through a window, but in fact the wind blows the glass doors open.

Thank you Gaumont for your suggestion.

I cannot believe I was so scared of such a kitsch, campy film!

I don't know- the "Bhargest" (the demon dog the Alsatian changes into) still looks pretty scary to me, especially with its glowing eyes and the noise it makes. One of the few geuninely eerie moments in the film though.

I remember falling asleep on the sofa next to my Dad one day when we were on holiday in Boscombe, then waking and seeing him reading a book called "Day Of The Mad Dogs"- the cover of which, at that age, scared me half to death!! The same thing happened a year later at home with my Mum and "Carrie".
