Unforrtuntly it featured two of my most annoying traits; the Danny Dyeresque narration (is this now obligatory in every Cockney crime film) and the bloody 'Heartbeart' pop soundtrack.
I'd hoped it might be a bit grittier but it was as if the 'Sunday night ITV' effect watered it down.
I don't see much of a connection to The Long Firm in style or content.
It's meant to be some sort of sequel
Just an average police drama so far.

I actually quite enjoyed it - but would have preferred it without all the music. I found a copy of the book a couple of weeks ago - but chose not to read it first.
It's based on the Harry Roberts case from 1966: Harry Roberts
The character Billy Porter is based on Roberts.
DS x.
I didn't think the book was as goos as "The Long Firm". In fact I abandoned reading "He Kills Coppers" which is rare for me.

Comming after The Long Firm and Mark Strong's outstanding performance, this has been disappointing so far.
They'll all be dead from lung cancer before the end. Otherwise, very enjoyable start.

I have now watched (via DVD) all three episodes of this drama........time that I may never retrieve, and I have a question: in what way is this based on the Harry Roberts story?
By the way, I only watched for research purposes, and in a thrall of fascinated contempt.
As soon as I saw the girl wearing a very short mini in the summer of '66, I knew we were in trouble, and it didn't get any better.
Why do they bother with meaningless period settings which they then fail to carry off?![]()
I think the problem was that the novel was condensed into three episodes unlike The Long Firm's five, with little room for character development. At least we heard The Pogues in last night's episode.
