Would anyone know where I could obtain a audio cassette or if possible a CD please?
Many Thanks.
Wyrleymon.
Like Bats, the only CD version I can find is new and used on Amazon UK, but 35 + P/P is steep enough to start a war! Attached vinyl copy is 8.00 + P/P...

These are the ones on ebay.
Is this the Geoff Love from the old Des O'Connor show?
I gave away a LP record of this to a shop in South Harrow, turn left outside the underground station, just 150 metres. It had so many classic war movies themes on it including 633 squadron, dambusters and many more. What an idiot.

Hooked off the line
IGeoff Love was the conductor of the Max Bygraves shows on ITV last sixties early seventies and not Des O'Connor.
He recorded many light orchestral albums and was also active as an arranger for telelvison and records. He also recorded under the guise of Manuel and the Music of the Mountains.
If memory serves me well he also recorded under another exotic alias.
Blimey- we have that on vinyl somewhere in the house. I think it was the album that introduced me to film music. He was the father of radio DJ,Adrian Love, who pre-deceased him.

Have to say most cover orchestras kill the theme they are trying to do justice to, but Geoff Love was a shining exception to this rule. His war and western themes were superb.
Coukdn't agree more Geoff's arrangements were tasteful and imaginative.
Some light orchestral conductor/ arrangers are guilty of producig some pretty uninspried arrangments. In my opinion the great Henry Mancini has had some dodgy moments with some fairly bland readings of popular television themes.
I have also been underwhelmed by listening to some recordings of another revered conductior/ arranger/ composer,David Rose

Oh, that's interesting. I was always put off his covers LPs, as the first one I bought (possible the first LP of any description I bought) was the Science Fiction Themes one, on which the tracks are absolutely nothing like the originals. Everything is drenched in Wah-Wah guitars.
His version of UFO on that LP is pretty good, though.
Haven't heard the science fiction one but I agree on them in particular being hard to reproduce faithfully. A case of looking for compilations of the originals ; but they are always so expensive! The ubiquitous wah-wah guotars are probably down to evrey one under the sun trying unsuccesfully to emulate the original theme from "Shaft" (1971) by the great Isaac Hayes, or the intro to Streets of San Francisco"...

I've got this album in my vinyl collection. Unfortunately my turntable broke about three years ago but this week I ordered a new one with the USB connection so I can now record my vinyl on to the PC and save the tracks as WAV or MP3 file format.

As said, it's been on ebay a couple of times. I missed a vinyl bid, but managed to get it on cassette a few weeks later. This was about a year and a half ago.
I think HMV released it some time ago on their house label. I need to look it up, though.
I wouldn't pay over the odds on e-bay for a copy. It's an album regularly seen in charity shops, if you're patient and willing to scrabble about for a while on your hands and knees.

Well looked it up. The MFP LP was re-released on this CD in 2000:
"War Movie Themes"
HMV EASY 7243 5 25894 2 5
One might still find it in one of the larger HMVs
From slightly earlier (mid 60s to mid 70s) I prefer the TV and Film theme LPs released by Johnny Gregory, sometimes under the another name (something like Chiquitto).
I saw his western themes LP in a charity shop in Llandudno yesterday, but unfortunately it was too scratched to play.
I also loved the Big Tv Western Movies album. My favourite track on that one was the theme form a forgtotten show, "Hondo" Geoffs arrangment. of ,"The Big Valley," is exctiting and better that the original arrangment on the show
I assume that the theme from Wagon Train on this L.P must be the theme from the latter seasons which were seventy five minutes long.

Ahem . . . .
I say, old chap, er . . . could I trouble you for a copy of some of these mp3 tracks then?????
(and so say all the rest of us)
Aw, go on, go on, go on, go on !
