He is an actor that I like very much, I discovered him in a french film by director A.Resnais called "Providence" (with also D.Bogarde and J.Gielguld); he was also good in "Tom Jones", "Time Bandits" or "Mouth of Madness" by J.Carpenter....

I like him a lot. He does a nice line in nutters - both of the psychotic kind like his Jack The Ripper role in Time After Time and the loopier kind like Morgan A Suitable Case For Treatment where he plays a delusionist who thinks he is a gorilla. He also does driven obsessives well - The Omen and Nightwing, along with nasty despotic types ( Tron ) and evil scientist types ( League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse which also combines his talent for comedy ). He's been in Hollywood so long now its easy to forget he was a darling of the British new wave of 60's acting talent. One of those actors who brings a bit of class to whatever he's in.

David Warner is excellent. Wonderfully mad as MORGAN - A SUITABLE CASE FOR TREATMENT, excellent in his segment of FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE, just as good in THE TIME BANDITS.

Nice bloke as well - suitably daft. When I met him at a signing fair and asked him for a photo he said - with all of that seriousness which one would expect from a very good actor -

"Hold on just a moment; let me prepare myself..."

Upon which he pulled himself up, then leaned back in his chair, licked both his fingers, smoothed down both eyebrows simultaneously and faced my camera with a big grin and a twinkle in his eye.

Fortunately when I saw him he was having a quiet 5 mins so we got to chat a bit about MORGAN (I'd taken a Morgan item to be signed). I'd love to meet him again and chat about other things - top man!

And he played in two Peckinpah's films !! , in "Providence" he is very good also as the son of J.Gielgud, a dreamy astrologist character...

he was great in "The Omen", I thought he complimented the Peck character very well and was quite sorry when he came to a sticky end! He appears in a nice little horror story which I really like, in the "Amicus" compendium "From beyond The Grave" Great actor for sure.

A great character actor but somewhat ignored over here. In fact he seems to be more busy today than he has been through his entire career; always popping up in support roles but never the lead. Two roles that stick in my mind are Cross of Iron and the mirror segment of From Beyond the Grave.

Damn! You took the exact words out of my mouth. He was fantastic in "Cross of Iron", equally just as good in "The Omen" and lets not forget "From Beyond The Grave" in the mirrror segment. A good actor who deserves better recognition....

The US Miniseries Holocaust is about to get a DVD release here next week which features a wonderfully icy turn by Mr Warner as Reinhard Heydrich

I just doon't know"The Omen", even it's famous film, I'm not really found off war genre, but I saw "Cross of Iron" and he is very good in unuasual soldier character, but it's also an unusual film with pretty good J.Coburn in too......

The other Peckinpah's film where he acted is "The Ballad of Cable Hogue", as a preacher, I intend to watch it sometimes....

The Ballad of Cable Hogue is excellent and worth watching if only for L Q Jones and Strother Martin reprising their 'double act' from The Wild Bunch.

David Warner is a magnificent actor. What a pity the rumours about him playing the Dr- both in the 70s and recently are untrue.

Does anyone remember a miniseries in which he played a private eye?

Yup, it was called Charlie, and a great shame it was that it was curtailed after one series. Mid 80's, as I recall.

I saw him as Hamlet at Stratford in the mid-60s (school trip). The most adolescent angst Hamlet before Ben Whishaw!

David Warner made a series for TV in the '80's called, if I remember rightly, 'Hold the Back Page' in which he played a journalist writing on sports. Liked the series a lot but there wasn't a second series.

I thought it was a movie release, in this country at least. I've got a lot of old Film and Filming magazines from that period, and they covered it.
