'Sam Saturday' maybe?.........about a Jewish Detective from north-west London with a stereotypical Jewish Momma played by Doreen "Mrs Warboys" Mantle
What was the ITV series from mid 80s that lasted just its 6 (?) episode run about some young Jewish guy(recall a motorcycle perhaps?) and it got shifted from primetime to a graveyard slot?

Possibly- ROOTS. Dates back to 1981 and starred Alan Corduner as a young Jewish dentist. His parents were busy trying to marry him off. Written by Marks and Gran the half hour comedy premiered in a good Friday night slot, but was booted into touch after a couple of weeks, and finished its run midweek at around 11.30. It really was rotten.
