Columbia have finally opened the door to their Hammer archive and let four films slip out:

    Stranglers of Bombay (1960)

    Terror of the Tongs (1961)

    Pirates of Blood River (1962)

    Devil-Ship Pirates (1964)

The latter has already been on R2 DVD, but the new release looks considerably better and the rest of the films look superb. Plus each includes an audio commentary and original trailer. Even more, the set also includes three bonus short films (rather random additions from the Columbia archives but still nice to have).

Just 13 from axelmusic.com, this set is a must have for any fans of classic adventure films or Hammer films.

My full review: Icons of Adventure

In other good news today, Sony announced the Icons of Horror set for later this year would include 'Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll', 'Scream of Fear', 'Curse of the Mummy's Tomb' and 'The Gorgon' - if the quality is the same as this current set it bodes very well. Lets hope even more (a war set perhaps?) is forthcoming.

Nice one. I have a sell through video release of Stranglers of Bombay, rotten picture quality and badly scanned. The real jewel in the crown here though is Terror of the Tongs. Can't wait to get my hands on that one.

The colour picture quality on both Blood River and Tongs is excellent and this set is a bargan at the price. All 4 films are in the correct aspect ratio.

I think the print of Blood River is slightly longer than the one that used to go the rounds on Sky a few years ago with a couple of extra gore shots. The print of Bombay has the brief snake/mongoose stock footage which was cut from the old UK VHS.
