Saw a great doc on MARTY FELDMAN last night and it reminded me of this.I've always had a soft spot for it even though it's a mess in about every department.Nobody who schedules the films on tv like it either as i've been waiting for it to come around again for years.

Has anyone else seen it or know anything about it?I don't recall hearing of the director MEL DAMSKI having done anything else(ALAN SMITHEE?),but knowing how clever you lot are i expect you have....

I watched it a couple of years ago and you're correct in describing it a mess. In fact Peter Cook and Spike Milligan have quite a strong resume of cinema clunkers.

Had Keith Moon been cast as intended it might have been even worse.

How can you say that? Keith was a wonderfully understated actor! Mark the subtlety of his performance in Sextette and That'll be the Day.

But Yellowbeard was an unwatchable film. I don't know that I made it to the end, and I'll sit through anything!

I think what made it so painful to sit through was the high regard I have for the cast members.

Apologies in advance (because I am in a foul mood having just added up my losses from yesterday's horseracing), but I don't understand the comment about not watching tv.

How does this stack up wih the mention of tv in the original post?

Surely we have moved beyond the old debate casting withering aspersions on the great unwashed who waste their lives watching rubbish tv, rather than going to the cinema or theatre every day?

TV is here to stay so lets appreciate it for whatever type of programme works for each of us.

In truth, I suspected as much - I was just being crotchety.

Re your last point, I am also betting on chasers at the moment. Thats the trouble, my horses are chasing in BEHIND the winners!

Regards - a slightly more sanguine Bernie
