    There is another thread on this film on which I uploaded some original vintage 8 x10 press stills from it.

    I had not seen those photos - very nice stills. Marvelous and very unique film.

    Thanks, Tim. Although it starred John Howard Davies, one of the leading British child stars of his day (the others being Anthony Wager and Bobby Henrey), this definitely wasn't a kid's picture and had a very eerie quality about it.

    yes - it is eerie and disturbing. It grows in intensity as it goes on in a way that captured my imagination. And I have never seen Valerie Hobson give such a deep and complex performance

    Two vintage 8 x 10 stills from The Rocking Horse Winner. The top still shows a scene that wasn't included in the finished film.

    One of the most dramatic and haunting British film stills of the 1940s.

    The latest vintage 8 x 10 press stills from the film to arrive in my collection, showing Valerie Hobson with Caroline Steer;
    Melanie McKenzie; John Howard Davies; Cyril Smith and Charles Goldner.

    (I have seen this movie for a while but I've noticed that in her other movies the always-elegant Valerie Hobson demanded and got a different dress for each and every scene)

    Well, she certainly had quite a few changes of dress in this film, too.

    A vintage 8 x 10 press still. Bassett (John Mills) teaches Paul (John Howard Davies) how to ride his new rocking horse like a real jockey...
    something that will eventually lead to a terrible tragedy.

    The Rocking Horse Winner featured on the cover of What's On In London magazine dated December 16th, 1949. The actual review of the film isn't in this issue,
    with the film not being premiered until the following week, so it was probably in the December 23rd, 1949, issue.

    This week, I won for a tenner on eBay an original centre pages double page spread of a poster for The Rocking Horse Winner taken from a Kinematrograph Weekly dated December 8th, 1949, and it arrived this morning. Of course, it's far too big for my scanner and I haven't got a digital camera to photograph it with, so here is the eBay seller's image of the item. I'm sure he won't mind, after all, I have paid for it.

    I'm going to a lecture about this film next week, followed by a screening. Looking forward to it.

    I hope you enjoy it, Nick. But I hope they don't show the Strawberry Media Region 2 DVD, which is a dreadful transfer. The Region 1 DVD, part of which you can see in the YouTube clip, is far better.
