Simple question, what are people's interpretation of the ending? I just can't imagine somebody passively walking up to a wall to be shot in the head.

I always assumed it was a grass who turns himself in to save the trouble of being shot.

It's a strange effective 'Play For Today' almost wholly devoid of ideology.

I have the Region one Alan Clarke Box Set in which Elephant is included. Also included is an hour plus documentary on Alan Clarke, and i seem to remember that Elephant is discussed in depth.

It certainly sums up the pointlessness of sectarian tit-for-tat shootings but I'd have thought some of the gunmen would have been far more nervy.

I've still yet to see the Van Sant's homage; which seems to miss the point.
