Sorry if this should be in music!

I love the proms but one thing puts me off!

Nigel Kennedy . I can`t stand the man! Talented, sure but when he opens his mouth a load of dribble comes out (MAN! INI`T!, know what I mean MAN!).

    Not cool! Just annoying.

When Liverpool played Aston Villa some years ago am pretty sure I saw him driving his jag to Anfield. A brand new jag with Aston Villa daubed in house paint along the doors.

As well as classical he plays some very good jazz with his quartet.

I feel the same way about him, I have never liked him as a person and unfortunately this has coloured my attitude to him as a peformer.

Havent seen any of this years proms on BBC 4, or on Radio Three.

We have the Welsh Proms here at Saint Davids Hall Cardiff at the end of July every year. My wife and I have missed the last couple of years becuase its gets very expensive and clashes with summer holidays.

A great shame we missed this year as Bryn Terfyl was peforming in one concert, we did get to see him in a concert peformance of Tosca at the Welsh Proms in 2005.

Is he still putting on that silly fake accent?

Early interviews with him show him talking in a posh accent

Yes, talented Musician as he is he certainly wasn't raised 'Gaw-blimey', I walked past him once circa '90 in a Soho street dressed like a cross between a Punk and a New-Romantic with his Purple crushed Velvet trousers, and does he still have that boil on his neck?, that's enough to put you off!

I always enjoy watching Last night and it's happy jolly atmosphere......a great British tradition!

Oh dear! I'm normally a mild-mannered peace-loving type, but whenever Nigel Kennedy opens his mouth, I have this overwhelming urge to punch it.

He's got to be one of the most irritating men on the planet.

Did anyone else watch the Manchester Halle perform Butterworth's 'A Shropshire Lad'. The performance which was framed by Rupert Evans and Tom McKay reading three of Housman’s poems was spellbinding.

A Shropshire Lad was written by A E Housman in 1896, a poem about loss and youth made even more poignant by the fact that Butterworth was killed in the Great War

    Totally agree, Freddy.

As for Kennedy - talented musician but he was "hothoused" from a young age with the result that he never had a proper childhood. He seems to be living his childhood later in life!

That was an example of the Proms at its best.

Unfortunately, the BBC seem determined to vulgarise the event at every given oppurtunity. In recent years we've had Tez Wogan's commentary, Lloyd Webber's music and now some god awful reality show with "Goldie" et al competing to conduct an orchestra.

The Proms was never intended by Wood to be an elitist event, but the BBC have managed to reduce it to the level of a Saturday night quiz show.
