That old hag in the celler really got me!!![]()
In a truly one off, I have in my possesion an LP (1958) called "Music To Suffer By" a monophonic (US) record-it is by Leona Anderson, who had a cameo in the film House On.. She played the grisly old hag in the cellar!-that being the 1959 original! On scene for a moment or two it gave many of us a jolt or two!!
(The LP) has to rank as the most unendurable 'music' on the planet-I never heard anything like it!?
This Lady Leona-even beat Mrs. Miller another US 'singer' as having the supposed unique distinction of being the world's worst singer!!

Yes- but highly comical (and cliched) when viewed again: Grizzled hair, high shoulders, upright forearms with outstretched fingers-what's that all about?...
The 'Old Hag' in the cellar is on YouTube: (H.O.H.H.) Part 3 (of) 8 at: 05.55
Many thanks for the steer to YouTube. That hag in the cellar really got my heart pumping!
Very creepy how she just GLIDES away -- was she on roller skates?

probably she was stood on the dolly funniilly enough, if you still pause 05.55 Leonas eyes are 'clouded' over-similar to cataracts-I wonder if this was deliberate or acquired -thru contacts? whatever, it is very effective for (1959)!...

You say that She Glides away..interestingly enough as bit parts in the film Howard & Leona as the 'ghosts' were known as the 'Slydes'... (they were servants to this mysterious haunted house!...).
The hag gliding away was scary. I thought she was on rollerskates.
This whole scene made my blood run cold!

Laughing Out Loud!
in an earlier scene 'The Slydes' appear together as the sinister couple emerging from a doorway-then, quckly recede again from out of the shadows! -I love it!!
I saw the original film at the Odeon Cinema in Portsmouth in the late sixties. It was the first horror film I saw at a cinema. It had an ‘X’ rating which I think was for ages sixteen and above. I was especially pleased as I was fourteen and managed to get in. The one screen (large screen) cinema was full and when the old hag in the cellar appeared the entire audience gasped and virtually all levitated from their seats in unison!

Love the post!! My earliest 'unauthorised' entrance was in 1972 'Soldier Blue'!
followed by 'Tales From The Crypt' 'From Beyond The Grave' 'Death Line' and that AWFUL 'horror film' with Jon Pertwee....

That's the one- very dire film compared with some of the others.
Leona's (1958) LP "Music To Suffer By" is unbelevably hard to listen to Two copies currently on Ebay (US) !!name='rjd0309']![]()

I liked 'The House That Dripped Blood'. But 'From Beyond The Grave' is a better film though, a cracker in fact.
Beyond is a far superior film, I remember well the exciting opening graphics.. very, very good.name='taffy1967']I liked 'The House That Dripped Blood'. But 'From Beyond The Grave' is a better film though, a cracker in fact.

Oh, I think The House That Dripped Blood is a hoot, especially the Christopher Lee and Jon Pertwee/Ingrid Pitt segments!
Mandragora!
Did you ever see the colourised horror sequence in "The Tingler"? With no dialogue, this part was played to the hilt by Judith Eveyn, it is extremely amusing while meant to be 'horrific'. Great use of shadow/close-ups/sinister music-and the bathtub tap running fresh blood! It must be on YouTube. Best.
