As a kid it was always summer holidays in Blackpool. Nearly everyone the comedians did summer seasons there. I certainly remember seeing Charlie Williams, Ken Goodwin, Frank Carson and also two you've not mentioned Josh White and Tom O'Connor.
Favourite Saturday night fare in the seventies and beyond, produced by Johnny Hamp.
This show made stars out of Mike Reid, Ken Goodwin, Charlie Williams, Frank Carson and lets not forget Bernard Manning.
I think I preferred the first wave featuring the aformentioned ,was not such a great fan of the latter seasons with Stan Boardman and Jimmy Crickett.
Also some notable lesser known names in the first couple of series such as George Roper (not to be confused with the Brian Murphy sitcom character) and Mike Burton with the close cropped hair.
Musical support from Sheps Banjo boys, musical direction from Derek Hilton who I assume was Granadas Musical Director he would turn up on Coronation Street from time to time providing piano acompniment at the odd seasonal knees up at the Rovers and other celbebrations.
Also responsible for theme to the sitcom Dustbinmen but we wont hold that against him.

there was also Colin Crompton, he of the wheeltappers and shunters fame.
Network have 2 compilation DVDs of these shows (the early series) if anyone is interested.

Another one you may recall frfom those days was the Irish comedian Mike Newman saw him either in Torquay or Bournemouth on a seaside show, didnt really make the big time.
I must admit that Jim Bowen is not a bad comedian, his many years on Bullseye have overshadowed his comedy career. Some years ago my wife and Iwent on a very short cruise on the QUE2, we only sailled to Le Havre and Cobh in Ireland from Southampton. Jim Bowen was on board enternaining during the cruise, his fact was quite good and he plays trad jazz on the clarinent. Seemed a good bloke and mixed well with passengers unlike Roy Walker who was very distant he had a cabin near ours.
I know I am digressing a little here but on the subject of Cobh Harbour I am always touched by the story about Laurel and Hardy arriving there at one stage, when they got there the church bells chimed out the Laurel and Hary theme and Stan burst into tears. Loved those guys I will put my cards on the table and say that Stan Laurel was the funniest comedian ever.!

I was making a (duff) joke that if all the un-PC stuff was removed there would only be about 3 mins left![]()
