I think there's a peplum called Rome in Flames ... but those films had so many versions it may be known as something else as well.

That western plot has been used several times. Can you remember who was in it?

Apart from Randy being too old for his part, Seventh Cavalry is an effective and unusual western.

    Cartagine in fiamme (1960)

It's 1960, and 7TH CAVALRY is 1956. I guess it's possible they could have wound up on a double bill together.

There IS a ROME IN FLAMES: Incendio di Roma, L' (1965) but it's 1965, which makes it lesslikely to share a bill with the Randolph Scott.

Joseph H Lewis, director of 7TH CAVALRY, said that when he did a little research and found out what Custer was really like, he lost all enthusiasm for the project. He didn't have the authority to change the script, which typically presented Custer as a martyr instead of the psychopath he was.

History has proved that Custer was not a 'psychopath' and that most of the negative views of the man were spread by his enemies to cover up their own mistakes and save their careers.

If anyone is interested in understanding the truth about Custer this excellent book is a good place to start ....
