Apparently not, Chevy.name='Chevyman'].....where he is likely to face questioning by our police
BBC NEWS | UK | Q&A: Glitter's release from jail
He has to be picked up by police when he arrives to be registered as a sex offender and then he is subject to certain restrictions - other than that, he is classified as having served his time and he is a 'free' man. He can even leave the country - if anybody else will have him!
He is coming back here because he has heart problems and wants to have treatment on the NHS.
To me is is now just plain Paul Gadd - a registered child sex offender.

Couldn't have put your last sentence any better Dame.
I used love Gary Glitter. His extra curricular antics have soured a part of my youth. The bastard should slide away into well controled obscurity.
I expect we will have press reports about how he has changed his ways or perhaps he still claims his innocence.
Most molesters are sadly never cured and many are very good at convincing well meaning people that they are.
More tax payers money has to be spent keeping an eye on him. Lets hope that the press give him a hard time and he is always looking over his shoulder.

Watching footage of him at his appeal shouting ".........but I didn't do anything........" made me feel quite sick![]()
he's gonna have to drastically alter his appearance if he wants to lead a 'normal' life in the u.k. i can't see it though after watching his clenched fist salutes to the press during his arrest-arrogant paedo who loves the attention
Yes I agree. Though much as I detest scum like him I hope he is not subject to vigilante attacks.Often the attackers are little better themselves and then the victim plays the sympathy card. I don't doubt that he will be well watched.

Thats what I was thinking about his appearence, he will have to have plastic surgery, if anyone would do it that is. He also has a distinctive voice in my opinion so it would be hard for him to get away with not being recognisd.
xx

Paedophilia isn't an illness, it's a sexual orientation in the same as heterosexuality or homosexuality are sexual orientations. Therefore it cannot be 'cured'. The behaviour can be adapted by use of therapies etc but hard core paedophiles are unlikely to respond and are a big danger due to their probable re-offending. Their whereabouts must be carefully monitored to protect our children. I am not keen on pre-emptive policing but this is one time I think it is essential.
I must admit I used to love Gary Glitter but then this was the seventies, glam rock and all that and hey I was young. I thought his music was pretty good. Damn catchy tunes - but then I was young. All before of course we learnt of his past. As part of my job I have worked with people who have been sexually abused. It's not very pretty. As for Glitter himself, I hope the bastard just rots into obscurity but that for the moment is unlikely to happen. I'm sure the tabloids won't leave him alone for a moment....![]()
I dont expect his records are played over the airways nowadays.

There was a DJ recently made to apologise for playing one of his tracks. But I've vicariously heard him recently in Oasis and KLF tracks that sample his early glam output.

It is very sad that for 40 years this guy once sold millions of records way back in the 1970's and made some damn good "pop" tunes imo.
A lot of what when on I do not think we would know the real truth as "there are two sides to a story" and we know what the UK press are like when it comes to "let this not get in the way of a good story" and yes it was proven that he had pornographic images on his pc,but I still wonder how much after all that was made up ? When mud sticks sadly it still sticks and no amount of pleading will change that.
In May 2006, Gary Glitter gave his first interview in more than 8 years to BBC News. He denied doing anything wrong saying "to my knowledge I have not had sex with anyone under 18". He also said "I know the line to cross". When asked what he thought of adults having sex with children he said "It certainly is a crime ... I don't have the words, I would be very angry about that."
" This interview was NEVER shown the way it is here, as in continious and those of you who have seen this on tv will know this as the BBC only showed part's and snipped bit's out and moved it around for some unknown reason? "
The FULL interview can be seen here and makes for some fascinating viewing.

On 25 June 2008 The Telegraph reported that Gary Glitter plans to record a new album on his prison release. He is quoted as saying "I have an incomplete album that I want to finish. I have been thinking about the plan during my days in jail, I have sung rock'n'roll for 40 years. After jail, I will continue to rock'n'roll."
The interview reminded me of the interviews given by Jonathan King, full of evasion, transference and self-justification.

Ditto Bats, as I recall he was a larger than life star in his day, and needless to say I was a fan, but I can't even bear to look at him now......

Anc iirc he paid compensation to the parents of those violated to have his sentence reduced.
