I've put my bullett proof vest on because I know you're all going to shoot me for this, but it really gets my goat the way that when ever David Jason is appearing in a new programme it gets hyped to death and the feeling seems to be this has to be brilliant it stars David Jason.

Thought he was good as Del boy and the old geezer in Porridge but apart from that he's never really impressed me.

Re the authenticity of Frost, wouldnt he have been far too short to be a police man at the time he would have joined the force?

I quite enjoyed him in the first "Diamond Geezer" and "All The Kings Men"

At 5ft 6ins I suppose he would be under the minimum height for most forces were he to apply in real life, but I'm usually too busy watching the action to think about it

    There, bullet-proof vest not required

These days you are more likely to need a stab proof vest.

I'm not keen on Frost, but liked him in Diamond Geezer, Lucky Fella, Darling Buds, and Do not Adjust your Set.

Some actors let success go to their heads but in defence of Mr Jason, he seems to remain a rather shy, private, but above all, decent family man.

I remember seeing him interviewed when it was announced that he was receiving a Knighthood. It was very surreal. Jason kept on making references to the Del Boy character and seemed unable to distinguish between that fictional character and himself.

Confess I liked Frost but recent episodes have IMHO been poor with the abrasive relationship with Mullet becoming almost comically overplayed and DJ is too obviously using a stunt double in the action scenes.

Like DJ as an actor and liked OFAH in its early years but IMHO became like a soap opera. I saw one of the recent ones and thought it looked like a Rolls Royce that hadn't been serviced for a decade.

He was in something about a submarine which was incredibly hyped up, I was so excited when I switched on to watch it but was VERY disapointed! In fact, I didnt even know what was going on half the time.

That's why I stopped watching Frost. Initially it was a good police show but evolved into a kind of parody with DJ overplaying the role (going full circle as his underplaying was a delight in the earlier episodes) and the Frost/Mullett encounters becoming more ludicrous with each new story. The same thing happened with OFAH only in reverse, with the comedy being pushed into the background by all the 'soap' elements and, as Windy said, it now looks like a very worn out old banger.

I still love to watch OFAH but I think it was spoilt when they both got married. Although I enjoyed the `cwwying` episode with Rachel and a couple of others I think Rodney became a lot less funny after marrying Cassandra.

I had to laugh at one episode of Frost where DJ had to play opposite Cassandra in a serious role . It just didn`t seem right. Who the hell cast that one?

When ITV introduce a programme starring Sir DJ,they make it as if it was an event in history. I loved him as the Blanco in Porridge,Granville in Open All Hours, and of course Del Boy in Open All Hours, but as I have said before, his Jack Frost is just Del Boy in a pork pie hat and overcoat.

I feel exactly the same way. Its a startling admission I know but in fact I have never even been a great fan of "Only Fools and Horse."

That's what he has become. In the early episodes DJ underplayed the role expertly, but as the series became popular he just went back to his old bag of tricks, many of which he also used for Del Boy.

Have you seen David Jason in PORTERHOUSE BLUE (tv, 1986) ?

He is brilliant in this - one of the great comedy performances, worthy of Ealing at its best.......

I agree. By far and away the best performance Sir DJ has given.

BTW, I'm still trying to purchase Porterhouse Blue on DVD. I have it on cassette with Sir DJ (or plain DJ as he was back in those days) reading the story and doing all the voices.

He's always struck me as a support actor who lacks a certain presence in the lead role. He was lucky with OFAH as the Beeb gave it a second series and the writing improved sharply, and in the Darling Buds Pam Ferris shared the limelight.

I never really took to Frost.

Did anybody see David Jason In His Element in 1997?

His great passion is/was diving and he was filmed diving off Hawaii, The Great Barrier Reef and other places - it was an amazing programme which, as himself, he made thoroughly enjoyable with his own commentary.

Unfortunately, they didn't release a video or DVD - but there is a book. However, I don't think that static underwater pictures are quite the same as watching the programme.

Let us not forget that he was Danger Mouse!

And I always found A Sharp Intake of Breath rather funny.

Anybody remember The Top Secret Life of Edgar Briggs? It was my favourite as a child but I haven't seen it since then so it might all seem a bit silly now.
