Anyone have any favourites, I was quite a fan of Fred Bassett in the Daily Mail as a teenager and also the Peanuts cartoons by Chares M Schulz.. As a fan of all things Irish I used to obtain the Irish Independent over here, Hank Ketchums Dennis The Menace strip was featured daily in that paper the freckle faced u.s. blonde kid as opposed to the Beano character altough I was a fan of him as well.

The Giles annual from the Daily Express was an annual treat for me for many years as a child, it was great opening this up on Christmas Day and reading the forward which was always written by a celebrity.

I was never a huge Andy Capp fan.

Also remember seeing Bob Kanes cartoon strip of Batman syndicated in the very early days of The Sun newspaper.

Another great favourite of mine was the Beatle Bailey cartoons, he had his own strip in my all time favourite comic, TV Comic.

I miss the adventure strips every paper used to have. You'd think there would still be an audience for Garth.

Gary Larson's "The Far Side." Not sure if that one made it across the pond.

One of my best pals, is an Andy Capp collector and we've had too many laughs with Andy and reg Smythe for me to disown him. It belongs to another time and place, but for me some of it is really funny, especially his run in's with the rent collector.

Andy Capp has changed. He no longer smokes and he no longer has fights with Flo.

My dad used to know a bloke on whom Andy Capp was based upon in Hartlepool. His cartoon strips are published every day from Monday to Saturday in the Hartlepool Mail, and of course the Daily Mirror.

Being from Hartlepool,we are extremely proud that local Reg Smythe has done well in that his cartoon creation in syndicated all over the world and has got the extreme accolade of being mentioned twice on The Simpsons.

There is a statue of Andy outside the Harbour Of Refuge pub in old Hartlepool:

I'm a big fan of Larson's work as well. There are a lot of Doonesbury fans out there as well, in fact there was a BBC Radio 4 programme about him yesterday.

I love 'The Far Side' .... the animated series was disappointing though.

I agree Bats - the impact of Gary Larson is based on that one moment in time, like a snapshot.

Well expressed Gazza .... that's it exactly. You also lost the ability to put your own voices to the pictures.

I have a book of "The Far Side" cartoons - and, years ago, they used to be in The Evening Standard every day.

I could post some - but Larson likes suing people who post his cartoons on the Internet!

I used to like the satirical Flook in 'The Daily Mail' (of all places!) by Trog (Wally Fawkes) and scripted by the likes of George Melly, Barry Norman and Barry Took.

Also Modesty Blaise. I have one of the 1967 original strips on my bedroom wall. An affordable and unique piece of artwork.

The humour in "The Strip Show" in the Daily Mail, can be very subtle.
